It’s Time to Give Yourself LOVE!

So there I was in my birthday suit in the ‘monastic sanctuary of the toilette’ – first thing in the morning, with the most bizarre hairdo ever (more like a hair-don’t). I looked at my reflection in the mirror and said …

“Oh brother – has it come to this?” Mind you, this was before splashing my face with cold water. Tried that – didn’t help …

Then my inner nut surfaced. I looked so ridiculous that I burst out laughing and started dancing and singing in front of the mirror. Yes it’s true, my song, “Give Yourself Love” was created in the throne room. I mean, why not? Creative inspiration can happen when you least expect it! The song kind of wrote itself …

… bah doom bah, bah doom bah (… I created my own band …)

“Well you came here wearing nothin’ but a smile
You came here to walk in style”

… a couple of twirls, hip wiggles, jumps (oops, not such a great idea in my all-together) … then more lyrics …

“But if you forget to rise above
All you gotta do – is Give yourself Love”

I’m starting to think maybe I’ll join the young generation, hair spray the spikes so they’ll stand up all day – even dye them purple! (but what would my mother think …)

Then the dance took on a life of its own … out into the kitchen I was drawn, then the living room, whirling, side-stepping, twirling, waving my arms … bah doom bah, bah doom bah … Sam, our cat, opened one eye (“there she goes again”) … now I’m sashaying back into the loo … more lyrics were coming now …

“Celebrate your life and all the stars shine brighter
Hum a little tune and all the children will sing”

Now I’m starting to love Who I AM, even first thing in the morning! Nothing like moving and singing with complete abandon to shift your whole energy.

“Give Yourself Love” kept on writing itself, uninterrupted, right there in the WC (although I must admit that I whacked my funny bone on the edge of the cupboard door once … ow ow ow ow hop hop hop hop – those lyrics didn’t make it into the song …)

Then, just as I finished with a big ending, the doorbell rang … I wasn’t that brave! I whipped on a housecoat (purple), threw a baseball cap (red) on my head (and I’m not even a member of the Red Hat Society), put on sunglasses (over-sized), opened the door and …

“Hello?” (pause) “Maam???” (he looked at me rather strangely). “Is this, er, the Blake residence?”

“No I’m sorry, you have the wrong house. They live down the street.”

“ OK … (sideways glance) er, thanks.”

I called after him, “Remember to give yourself Love today!” (hope he didn’t take that the wrong way …)

Grin, shut (lock) door – Whew!

So, back to the loo I go to make sure I remember the happenin’ lyrics. Yep, they were all there. Even sang it through 6 more times! The song was birthed and couldn’t be stopped. The message was profound and fun at the same time! “Give Yourself Love” keeps moving out into the world. It is one of the most requested in my Life-Lifts, Concerts and Workshops. Can’t you just picture a whole audience singing along on the last line of every verse – “GIVE YOURSELF (ba doom) LOVE!!”

Love Ourselves First. This message is being repeated over and over through all different mediums. And yet –  how often do we still put ourselves down? It took me many years to change the feeling of ‘less than‘ to ‘I AM Enough’ and ‘I Deserve it All’.  Most times I remember, other times I forget. But then someone comes along to remind me what I already know. Perhaps if we hear it a thousand times – speak it, shout it, think it, feel it, breathe it, sing and dance it, even cry with it – we will fully claim our birthright – stand in our Center and Know I AM That I AM.

As Marianne Williamson said, “It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.” But here we all are at the threshold of a New Age. We have traveled many roads, some dark, some uplifting, some painful; and yet, through it all we have come at this time to rise again and remember our Brilliance. If ever there were a time to embrace the Light of our Being, This Is It!

So …

The next time you (and I) notice even an inkling of self-doubt or I’m-not-good-enough, STOP! Take a moment, breathe, and look in the mirror. It doesn’t matter what you are (or are not) wearing. Look deeply at the beautiful You behind the image, your Authentic Self. You are truly beautiful, Just The Way You Are.

Feel the beat, start a little hip action, join the song. Here comes your irresistible spontaneity. What do you have to lose?
